This not a Daguerreotype. It is a later process, either an Ambrotype or a tintype. Daguerreotypes are made directly on a highly polished, silver plated copper sheet. They look like mirrors. They cannot chip or crack like the picture here because there is no elmusion surface.
It is a very unusual and lovely image, though. Most photographs from the time do not reveal such intimacy.
